Site Tip – Sub Albums

Posted by Eric on 24 Feb 2009 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

One way to make sure that your customers can move easily within any album is to utilize sub albums. Let’s use the example of a wedding shoot. Instead of creating one album and dumping all 1200 images into one spot, you might want to think about making your customer’s experience a bit smoother by creating sub albums.

For example, an event titled “Johnson Wedding” may contain sub albums titled “Pre-Ceremony,” “Ceremony,” “Posed Groups,” “Reception,” and so on. This accomplishes two things: first, it helps your customer select the exact shots they want to look at, and second, it keeps the load time to a minimum each time a new album displays as thumbnails. Loading 1200 images as thumbnails is going to take a lot longer than loading 250 images in a sub album.

One last piece of advice: create your albums in advance and then point your uploads to the appropriate sub albums. That way you do not need to shuffle images once they are loaded.

When you upload your images, make sure to point them into your pre-made sub albums. Once the uploads are finished, you are ready to roll.

Site Tip – Event Messages

Posted by Eric on 24 Feb 2009 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Do you have a message that you want the viewers of your photo albums to see? Maybe a note that says, “Use the event code ‘Johnson’ today and get 20% off your order,” or something that says, “All images will be taken off the site on August 31st.” Whatever the message is, we know you don’t want to go through the hassle of telling every viewer individually, so we added an “Event Message for Customer” area under “Event Settings” on your administrative site.

In this same section, you can also include the “Photographer of Album,” which will be very helpful to those of you that have a few different photographers working under one website or business name.

Site Tip – Personal Logo

Posted by Eric on 24 Feb 2009 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

When adding your logo to your photos, it is important to remember that depending on the print size your customer chooses, the logo has a chance of being cropped off.

If you use a SLR or Digital SLR, a 4×6, 8×12, 10×15, 12×18, 20×30, and 24×36 are all considered full frame and uncropped.
If you use a small digital Point and Shoot camera, most wallets, 4.5×6, 8×6, and 18×24 are considered full frame and uncropped.

If your customer picks a size other than the size listed above, then their print will be cropped and your logo maybe cut off if not properly placed.

For a SLR, place your logo at least 1/6th or 17% away from the short edge of the photo. Your preference to the left or right side.
For a small digital Point and Shoot, You can place your logo closer to the short edge, but move the logo inward away from the long edge.

*Keep your logo small in size and add a drop shadow so it will stand out on different backgrounds.

If you use Adobe Photoshop, then you can place this logo on your images and batch process a whole set of photos with your logo.
