How to Price your work?

There is one important thing to always remember about being a professional photographer: never forget that you are selling a one-of-a-kind product that cannot be compared with anybody else. The entire experience is unique from the moment your customer walks into the shoot until the prints are delivered. When customers purchase prints they are buying the whole experience, not just a piece of paper. They are purchasing that unique moment you captured.
The biggest mistake most new photographers make is trying to compete with the photographer down the street or the photo lab offering low cost prints. Never get caught up in that race. If you take that approach, you may end up doing more volume but ultimately you end up working your tail off for very little profit. Once you set your bar that low, you will have a hard time raising it in the future. It doesn’t take long before you are burned out and bitter. Set your bar high and you will attract more serious buyers and feel better about your final product. If a customer complains about the price, be willing to let them walk away. It’s hard to do, but essential. Photographers are selling unique memories. Be confident in your abilities from the start, keep your prices in a range that makes it worth your time, and never get caught up in the comparison game. Stick to your guns!
